which side of the shaver socket should i be using?
IVE ethical bought an electric shaver, and I do not know which side of making the bathroom to plug it into the 115V or 240V.
Who is right?
240 volts !!!!!!!
How can i charge my shaver without the 2pin to 3 pin socket convertor?
So i call to charge my shaver now and have lost the 3pin socket convertor, the shaver cam with a 2 pin adappter lead, can i somehow prize the 2pins open a bit and plug the 2 pins on it into a equilateral 3 pin wall socket?
You would be more wisely off just getting yourself an inexpensive adapter.
The two-prong plug is specifically designed for use in a bathroom socket, the shaver does not press for an earth connection which is why the prong on the adapter is normally plastic (ie. does not carry any charge). In theory, you could cut off the two-prong promote, and simply connect the two core cable to the live and neutral of a standard plug - however you should NOT have a standard 13 amp coalesce in the socket, you should find out what the amp-rating of the shaver input is and choose a suitable size (someone here suggested 1 amp, which may be correct, usually 3 amps are the smallest acquainted with in domestic units.)
However, you would never then be able to use that shaver in a bathroom socket again, so seeing as you can get an adapter for probably roughly the same cost as a decent three prong pigtail, it makes sense to go for the adapter and keep the original cable intact. Note that any warranty would probably be voided by slip off the original plug.
Do UK wiring regs allow a bathroom shaver-socket to be wired to the non-RCD'd lighting circuit?
It would be so much easier for me to do this, which is why I'm asking (yes I differentiate you are supposed to be part-P certified).
If not, did it used to be permitted ?
I'm thinking this might be permitted because the shaver sockets all contain isolation transformers.
Yes, a shaver socket can be wired to an non RCD lighting limit. It must be an isolated BS EN 60742 (transformer) type, not just a 2 pin socket. It must be installed in Zone 2 or higher, and have additional bonding. The twice wound transformer limits the voltage to earth to 55 volts.
After next year ALL bathroom circuits MUST be via an RCD. Yes - this is Part P.
